Chamaedorea Elegans : Parlor Palm


Chamaedorea Elegans plant is also called Parlor palm due to his beauty. It is an indoor ornamental plant used to decorate the houses. They required very low maintenance. It is a hardy house-plant.

Parlor Palm has several common names like Neanthe Palm, Neanthe Bella Palm etc. Their native is dense rainforest of Southeren Mexico and Guatemala where the environment is warm and humid.

Chamaedorea Elegans plants are very handsome, lush palms and very popular. It has dense, deep green, feathery leaves born on branches.

They produces yellow flowers in spring season. Sometime they does not bloom while growing indoors. This is due to typical growing condition inside the home.

It may grow up to 8 feet in outdoor and up to 4 feet in indoor. Chamaedorea Elegans Plant grows very slow. If you are looking for a low-maintenance palm, Chamaedorea Elegans will be the right choice.

Care of Chamaedorea Elegans Plant (Parlor Palm)


Chamaedorea Elegans Plant loves well-drained soil. Coco-peat based soil works well.


Fertilize these plants once in 3-4 weeks. Fertilize these plants in summer season only.


Water them when top 1-2 inch layer of soil gets completely dry. Do not water them frequently. Water them once in 1-2 weeks.


It loves bright indirect light. It also grows well in low light and artificial light. Hence, this ability makes it a perfect indoor plant.


Parlor palms are native to dense rain-forest where humidity levels are high and constant. Place humidifier or a water tray near plant to maintain humidity.


It belongs to warm region. Hence, it grows well in temperature between 18-27 Degree Celsius.


Pruning is not required in for this plants. Because, Parlor Palms are self-cleaning. However, you can cut the discolored leaves.
