Aeschynanthus Radicans is called Lipstick Plant due to an elaborated display of its scarlet flowers. This is a very easy to grow house plant. These plants will grace indoor spaces with its good growth and colorful flowers for many years.
Lipstick plant is also known as Lipstick Vine. These plants are belongs to the native of tropical climate and humid rain-forests of North Java to the Malay Peninsula. The long trailing vines of these plants grows along trees in that places.
This plant can be grown in outside but climate should frost-free. These flowering plants grow and thrives as an indoor house-plant at prefered condition.
These plants are very perfect to grow in hanging pots or baskets. The stems grows two feet long or ever longer and brings tropic beauty.
Lipstick Plant / Aeschynanthus Radicans Care
The flowers are look like a lipstick tube. So this plant is commonly known as Lipstick plant. This plant is very easy to grow in indoors. Some important caring tips are as below-
Aeschynanthus Radicans plants loves to grow in fertile and well-draining soil . Soil should be aerated but not heavy. Heavier soil do not drain properly and remain too wet. Use lightweight and fertile soil for potting mix.
Give the water to Aeschynanthus Radicans plants when top one-third of soil becomes dry.
The lipstick plant produces a lot of flower when kept in bright but indirect sunlight. Do not place the plant in direct sunlight. It can be survive in outlook too but in the partially shady location.
Use slow release fertilizer in to soil. Fertilize them once in a month. Do not over-fertilize.
Indoor temperature between 23-30 Degree Celsius promote the best growth and flowering.
Lipstick plant loves high humidity. Mist the plants with water spray to maintain humidity level. Also we can keep a water tray near plants to maintain humidity level.
Prune the Lipstick plants to promote bushier growth. Pruning should be done after completion of the flowering period.
We can propagate new plants through cutting stems. Do not throw the cutting stems after pruning. Place the cutting stems into water rich soil to propagate new plants and keep then in bright but indirect sunlight.
Pests and Diseases
The fungal problems are the biggest diseases which affects the Lipstick Plant. Botrytis Blight are the fungies which affect the plants when temperature goes down.
